Prayer is TALKING WITH GOD. And just like any normal conversation between friends, it’s a 2-WAY CONVERSATION. Prayer, then, is the avenue through which we human beings here on Planet Earth can talk to THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE UP IN HEAVEN! And if you grasp the significance of that dynamic, you will understand why PRAYER IS AN ADVENTURE!

There are a couple of important reasons why prayer is an adventure. In John 10:10 NIV, Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Did you catch the significance of what Jesus is revealing to us about the spiritual world? On the one hand, the devil is out to create a life full of sad adventures. And that is a part of every person’s existence. But for disciple’s of Jesus, He has created a life full of fun, exciting, never-dull, always-fulfilling adventures!

Speaking of Jesus’ disciples. Matthew (one of Jesus’ 12 original disciples) records the following account in Matthew 4:19 NIV: “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”

When Jesus enters our life, in other words, he will take our boring, run-of-the-mill lives, and supercharge them. He will give us lives with one-of-a-kind, far-from-boring adventures. NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME! Our life will NOT always be filled with happy, comfortable experiences. But good or bad, happy or sad, comfortable or uncomfortable, life will always be an adventure. And through it all, God will fill our hearts with “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding.” Philippians 4:7 NIV

Here’s a brief story by Shellie Dale to illustrate the amazing prayer adventure God is anxious for us to experience on a daily basis.

I was unhappy with myself.  I had volunteered to get a bale of hay for the church hayride, and then put off picking it up.

I’d seen a couple of “hay for sale” signs along the roads near my house, so I was confident I could find one.  Unfortunately for me, there were NO signs along my roads now, and it was nearly dark.

Ready to give up and go on, my kids urged me to pray so we did.  Finally, though, time ran out and I had to turn around.  I did a quick u-turn and we dejectedly headed back.

Suddenly my son shouted, “Mom, watch out!”  Screeching my brakes I came to a stop in the road.  Dead ahead in our path – right smack in the middle of the road – was a bale of hay.

We praised God for answering our prayer, and I jumped out just as the driver of an old farm truck pulled up.  He was apologizing profusely and promised that he’d been coming back to push it off the road.  I told him we needed a bale of hay – that we’d prayed for a bale of hay, and it was an answer to prayer if he’d let me have it.  Shaking his head and grinning at my excitement, he left us the hay.

My kids and I scrambled out of the van and hoisted the bale into the back.  We firmly believe that God cares about little things and has a sense of humor in providing it right smack in the middle of the road where he could enjoy watching us find that hay.
